Working Holidays at Llanerchydol Hall

Llanerchydol Hall (Grade II*) is a magnificent, gothic, turreted mansion with a rich history dating back to the 1700s. It is situated in 5 acres of grounds, which in turn, are positioned in 60 acres of Grade II* listed Repton designed parkland, only minutes from the long distance footpath, Glyndwr’s Way, in glorious Welsh countryside. There are specimen trees here-Sequoias, Cedars and a Dawn Redwood which was thought to be extinct until its rediscovery in the 1950s. In the summer, you can hear the steam train on its way, up the valley, hooting at Powis Castle as it flies past, and in the winter, it is the owl’s domain. There are spectacular night skies, unspoilt by pollution, and by day, the Welsh mountains beckon. A ruined clocktower and a Japanese Garden complete the picture.
The hall has been owned by many rich people including tea and cotton traders, but a few months ago, 4 ordinary people sold their houses, clubbed together, took out an eye-watering mortgage and bought Llanerchydol Hall. They began working on the house by clearing it and it wil hopefully be undergoing a significant restoration during 2022/2023 having been neglected for many decades once all the permissions are in place. We are inviting you to join us at this fun, exciting time in history in helping us with the restoration. Our vision is to restore a fine house but also to create a community space for retreats, weddings, workshops, art, etc.
You, too, could be lord or lady of the castle, for a week! The very first week-long residential Dragon Camp aims to honour the spirit of the National Trust for Scotland Thistle Camp working holidays, bringing together people with a common goal and purpose, having fun and building new friendships. The camp activities will be outdoors-ground clearance, creating new flower beds, planting, path creation, building steps and a rota for cooking meals etc.
Most of the accommodation is anticipated to be camping but there is limited basic but comfortable accommodation available inside the house. 3 bedrooms (2 single and one double) are available and will be allocated on a first requested, first served basis. For relaxation, you can enjoy the light and airy conservatory and at least one of the other formal rooms, it may be the grand Drawing Room or the library with its listed wallpaper. Join us Aug 13th-20th 2022, and become a part of Llanerchydol Hall fabric, Llanerchydol history.
Pitch up and help! £75 for the week, to cover food; with your own tent. (Supplement for a room inside the hall).
